Loea, Referentia Systems to partner

Pacific Business News (Honolulu) - 9:07 AM HAST Wednesday 10-25-06

Command-and-control computer systems meet advanced wireless communications in a new alliance between two Hawaii high-tech companies announced Tuesday.

The wireless company is Loea Corp., a division of Trex Enterprises Corp. with operations in Hawaii, New Mexico and Massachusetts. Its CEO is Tom Fargo, the retired commander of Pacific military forces. It was the first company to win Federal Communications Commission authority for point-to-point transmissions in the millimeter-wave spectrum. It is the only FCC-certified supplier of radios that work in the 71.0-76.0 and 81.0-86.0 gigahertz frequency bands.

Honolulu-based Referentia Systems Inc., marking its 10th anniversary this year, provides information technology services and specializes in doing it for military applications.

The two companies said Tuesday that Jim Fordice will lead the joint venture. Fordice retired this year as chief of I.T. strategy and integration at the U.S. Pacific Command.

"Capt. Fordice has great vision and proven experience leading large military C4 organizations. He understands the current needs of military and government customers," said Fargo.

"We are very pleased with this partnership and the opportunity to leverage the complementary capabilities of Referentia and Loea," said Referentia CEO Nelson Kanemoto.
